Blackened Halibut Recipe




If you are planning to cook this blackened halibut inside, you will need a very good ventilation system. If you have any doubt about this, you can and should cook this outside on the grill.

Blackening Tips: Once you have sprinkled the spices on, press them in as you will lose some of the spices when you cook it.

You want the halibut to be cooked to 145 degrees.

Ingredients

  • 4 - 6 to 8 oz. Halibut Steaks
  • 2 Lemons, cut into wedges
  • 3/4 lb. Butter, melted
  • Blackened Spices:
  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon each, Black Pepper, White Pepper, and Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt

Directions

  1. In a small sauce pan melt the butter
  2. Throughly mix the blackening spices
  3. Start to heat a large cast iron skillet over hign heat until it is very hot
  4. Dip the halibut steaks into the melted butter and generously sprinkle the spices on to each side of the fish. Press the spices in
  5. Place the halibut steaks in the hot skillet
  6. Cook the steaks until the the bottoms become slightly blackened, turn the steaks and cook the other side till they are blackened
  7. Serve immediately
