Cajun Boiled Shrimp Recipe

This is a very easy and basic Cajun boiled shrimp recipe. If you use a different size of shrimp you will need to adjust your cooking time. Smaller shrimp will take less time while jumbo or bigger will require more time. The most important part is not to overcook your shrimp.




Ingredients

  • 3 lbs large shrimp(31 to 35 per lb) shell on
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 5 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 3 large celery stalks, cut in large pieces
  • 1 shrimp and crab boil in a bag
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Directions


  1. In a large pot, add water and all ingredients except Shrimp
  2. Bring to a boil and let boil for 5 minutes, then add Shrimp
  3. Stir, cover, turn off burner and let sit for about 6 to 8 minutes
  4. Drain into a colander, then put shrimp into a ice bath to stop the cooking
  5. Once cooled, drain in a colander, remove shrimp to a platter and serve with cocktail sauce


Serves 6 to 8 people
