Shrimp size
Question
When buying shrimp, stores offer jumbo, large, medium and etc.Exactly what is the size (inches ?) of the above> Thank you.
Answer
Hi
That's a tough question to answer and I really can't give you an exact answer.
All shrimp are graded by the count of shrimp per lb and unfortunately not by the length. The length of a shrimp can be misleading when looking at them in a fish case.
The length difference between a jumbo and large shrimp will not be much. But the circumference of them will be noticeable. If you are skeptical of the size of shrimp the store is calling jumbo, have them count you a pound out. There should be 21 to 25 shrimp per pound.
